There are many wonderful milestones we all reach sometime during our lives. Some we look forward to with eager anticipation such as our wedding day or graduation. How do you go about preserving these precious memories correctly so they are in perfect condition when it is time for your child to appreciate them? The first tip is to begin early. Keep a pregnancy journal. You would do well to record your thoughts and feelings throughout your pregnancy. There are many benefits to doing so. First, writing can be therapeutic. Writing down your thoughts can help you to cope with the many challenges of your growing body and changing mental moods. After baby is born you may enjoy creating a baby memory book. Write down any funny sayings, special milestones or medical issues your new baby experiences in your memory book. This may help your pediatrician diagnose or detect any problems that may arise in the future. Most baby memory books have a space to include a family tree. You may want to glue a small picture of each family member next to his/her name. Chances are, there are some relatives that your new baby may never get the chance to meet. This book will surely become a precious heirloom for your child.

Popular these days are scrapbooks. For a wonderful keepsake, take a picture of your child every month she turns a month older. Include your baby’s height and weight and any special milestones or memories accomplished that month. Keep this up every month until they reach adulthood and you have a priceless wedding gift for your child. Be diligent! When your baby turns into a teenager, she may resent the monthly photo shoot but will find it extremely precious when she is older. 1. Make sure all paper used is acid and lignin free. This will ensure that your precious baby’s memories do not yellow over time like your baby pictures have.

2. If you are printing photos of your baby from your home computer make sure the ink used is long lasting. Some inks can fade over time or if exposed to sunlight. Keeping your baby photos in a baby memory book or scrapbook under a clear film will aide in keeping your photos for years.

3. Do not overload your baby memory book or scrapbook with too many embellishments. This can be difficult because there are so many cute products available today. Embellishment overload can easily distract from the precious photos of your new baby.

4. Make sure your book is sturdy and well-made. The old saying holds true in this situation. “You get what you pay for.” There are many inexpensive baby memory books available fo purchase. Although they may seem like a good deal now, these scrapbooks may not stand the test of time. You would be better off paying a little more for a quality baby memory book that is going to last long enough for your new baby to grow and enjoy later in life.

Your new baby’s memories are precious and should be cherished. Creating a written record of your baby’s wonderful journey through life can make for a priceless gift.
