Get Organized For Your Family

Staying on top of the clutter, streamlining routines, zipping through to-do lists, making life calmer; they’re all your top concerns, especially with a new baby in the household! Here, our latest time-saving tips and stay-sane strategies for you and your family.

Cleaning and Errands

Even if you were a gung-ho housekeeper before you had a baby, there are probably a few Cheerios and toys (or toy parts) hiding between your sofa cushions now. And if you were a little lax before, you’re most likely facing more muddy shoes, broken crayons, and smudgy fingerprints than you ever imagined.

It may seem like you have only two choices - clean constantly or throw in the towel before you’ve even tried to wipe anything with it. But there’s a happy medium. We asked cleaning experts and normal moms for strategies that’ll give you the home you want in the time you have.

First figure out which messes matter most. Set out to clean your house from top to bottom, and you’ll exhaust yourself long before you’ve achieved your goal. Instead, concentrate on the high-traffic rooms. Usually, this means the kitchen and bathroom, plus the entryway, living room, and any rooms that visitors may see during the next week-say, your child’s room, if that’s where she and her friends play. Grab your favorite products so you don’t have to keep backtracking.

Estimate the total number of minutes you can spend on housecleaning, and divide it by the number of rooms you want to tackle. Starting with the dirtiest or most-used area, take a top-down approach. Begin with tasks that are at or above eye level, leaving the floor for last. Dust knickknacks and furniture with a cloth, and also use it for windows and mirrors. Use disinfectant wipes on anything that’s handled frequently, such as doorknobs and telephones.

If the room has a focal point, spend extra time in that area. Make sure your living room sofa is crumb-free and the cushions are plumped, for instance; and, of course, no bedroom feels neat unless the bed is made. Last of all, sweep or vacuum the floors.

The Morning Rush

Master kids clothes. Label dresser drawers with cute pictures of everything that goes inside- including underwear, pj’s , swimsuits, and tights. Put newly laundered clothes at the bottom of the pile so your child doesn’t wear the same outfits again and again.

Help your children get dressed fast! Hang tomorrow’s outfits in an easy-to-reach spot. Hook a zippered pencil case next to it for socks and undies. Put together entire outfits, including socks, and under-wear, then roll them up and stow them in a drawer for the ultimate in grab and go simplicity.

Keep accessories accessible. Set a silverware organizer on top of your child’s dresser to hold hair elastics, bracelets, and more. Tie a few knots in a ribbon and pin it onto the wall: It’s great for holding barrettes and hair bows. You may also purchase one of our personalized "my little bow keeper." These doll faces are made to look like your child while holding all of their hair bows and accessories.

Bedtime and a neat changing table will help. Set diaper cream or ointment upright in a cute pencil holder. Put a box of wipes and a supply of diapers in a pretty container within easy reach. Toss in some clean makeup sponges- great for applying rash creams without getting goopy. Squirrel away extra diapers in an open canvas tote on the floor for easy restocking. Or buy jumbo packs, and stash in a laundry hamper or covered basket under the crib. Hope this helps!!
