All About Baby Showers

Who should host the baby shower?

Traditionally, only non-relatives are to host a baby shower.. co-workers, church groups, etc.; however, it has become more and more common and acceptable for mothers and sisters to host showers too. And why not? The important thing is that someone take the initiative to host the shower…what a wonderful display of caring for a growing family and a special way to help welcome a new life into the world. Really, the only one who absolutely should not host a shower is the expecting mom herself!

It is also perfectly acceptable for more than one person to host a baby shower. It can be fun for a group of friends to share the responsibilities and excitement of planning and hosting this special event.

Who do I invite? How should I invite the guests? You likely have some idea of those you want to invite to the shower, but it is always a safe bet to run the guest list by the mom-to-be to ensure you haven’t left anyone out. If the shower is not for a firstborn, you may want to invite only those close to the mom-to-be or those who have not attended previous showers.

What do I get and where might I find that perfect baby shower gift? Try the BrownEyedBabyBoutique.com. They have so many unique and beautiful gifts for that new baby. Some of the more interesting gifts that they carry are the Coming Home Baby Gift Set, the Diaper Cakes, Baby’s First Year Bibs Cake, the Baby Girl Caterpillar Gift Set and many Personalized Baby Gift Baskets.

What kind of food should I serve? That depends on when the party is being held and whether it has a theme. The easiest way to serve food at a shower is to set up a buffet or a bunch or small plates and bowls of appetizers, vegetables and dip, or cookies and sweets around the room in which the shower’s being held. Serving finger foods lets guest nibble and try different things throughout the party and may encourage them to mingle: Put the chips on one side of the room and the cherry tomatoes on another and people will be circulating before you know it. The more complicated and expensive option of a sit-down meal can be very nice if you’ve got the time and money.

What you serve can range from celery sticks and mini-quiches to dishes of M&M’s and chocolate truffles. Snacks and vegetables often work best in the afternoon; desserts are great for evening parties. Everyone has a crowd-pleasing, easy-to-make favorite.

What about drinks? A fun thing to do at a baby shower is to serve your drinks in baby bottles with enlarged holes. Anything from water, juice, punch, iced tea, lemonade or even milk. The guests will riot over the baby bottles.

Should your baby shower have a theme? It’s really up to you. You may find creating a theme too much work or not your style, but having one can make the party seem more organized and streamline preparations.

The most important thing in giving a Baby Shower is to relax and have fun!!!
